Only one in three victims lives longer than five years after treatment, often because the cancer is discovered too late. Know the signs and protect yourself. Watch for these oral symptoms of possible malignancy. A swelling or lump on the lip, tongue, or oral tissues. A sore which doesn't heal. Red spots or white patches on the tongue, cheeks, or oral tissues. Persistent bleeding. If you notice any one of these symptoms, even if they are not painful, contact your family dentist or physician immediately. The earlier cancer can be detected and treated.
