Film Transcript / Subtitles

If you are not in good physical condition, be careful of strenuous work or exercise during the cold winter months. The energy you use in shoveling snow, pushing a stalled car, or trudging through snowdrifts may lead to a heart attack or produce the painful symptom called angina pectoris. Mere exposure to cold weather causes the blood pressure to rise. When the heart is also required to tote around the added burden of heavier clothing, including galoshes or boots, you can overtax it. Before subjecting your heart to unaccustomed, vigorous exercise, consider your age and physical condition. Exercise for middle-aged and older persons should follow a prescribed routine geared to the individual's capabilities. In severe weather, older persons should perform their exercises indoors.
